Writer Resources: Deep Magic Magazine

Hello everyone! In today’s Writer Resources post, I wanted to introduce science fiction and fantasy authors to Deep Magic, an e-zine specializing in clean sci-fi and fantasy.

For those who are unfamiliar with the term, “clean” means free of swearing and gratuitous violence. Essentially, anything not necessarily family friendly. I’ve had the pleasure of submitting a story to them, and though it wasn’t accepted for publication, the rejection letter gave me valuable feedback on the story while encouraging me to submit to them again in the future.

The Deep Magic team┬áis comprised of wonderful people who are very knowledgeable about the type of stories they solicit. Deep Magic’s most recent issue (June 2016) was filled with stories from talented authors such as Carrie Ann Noble, Jeff Wheeler, and Steven Yager, just to name a few. Also included was an interview with Brandon Sanderson!

As per their website: “For first world-wide rights, we pay $.08 per word for the first 5,000 words and $.06 per word for each word between 5,001 and 16,000 words, with payment capped at $1,060 for stories longer than 16,000 words.” Additionally, they accept submissions between 1,000 and 40,000 words.

If you write fantasy and science fiction, I highly recommend checking them out!
